Awards season is in full swing, and what a year this is turning out to be for ICDA members! We would like to use this opportunity to give a shout-out to our members, many of whom have been nominated for or have already won awards in 2023.

The Oscars
The following films, cast by ICDA members, have been nominated for this year’s Academy Awards:

Golden Globes

TÁR, cast by Avy Kaufman, Simone Bär and Jeremy Zimmermann took home Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama (Cate Blanchett)
Nikki Barrett and Denise Chamian’s film ELVIS was able to secure Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama (Austin Butler).
And one of the big winners of the night – THE WHITE LOTUS, as cast by Meredith Tucker, Katie Doyle, Barbara Giordani and Francesco Vedovati – received both Best Television Limited Series, Anthology Series or Motion Picture Made for Television and Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Limited Series, Anthology Series or Motion Picture Made for Television (Jennifer Coolidge).






Screen Actors Guild Awards
A number of films cast by our members were nominated for or won at the 2023 Screen Actors Guild Awards. Here they are:

The White Lotus, cast by Meredith Tucker, Katie Doyle, Barbara Giordani and Francesco Vedovati, won Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series (Jennifer Coolidge) and Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.
Elvis, cast by Nikki Barrett and Denise Chamian, nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role (Austin Butler).
Hustle, cast by Kim Taylor-Coleman, nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role (Adam Sandler).

Artios Awards
Our member and first ICDA President Simone Bär, who was selected last year to receive the 2023 European Capelier-Shaw Award for Excellence in Casting, recently passed away, and will posthumously receive this award. Named in honour of legendary European casting directors Margot Capelier and Rose Tobias Shaw, this award, which was established in 2021 and first awarded in 2022, is given annually in recognition of lifetime achievement in casting as well as unique contributions to the craft.

Berlinale Film Festival

A fair amount of our members had films showing at this year’s Berlinale Film Festival. And excitingly, five of them cast films, which were awarded with Silver Bears:
The Silver Bear (Grand Jury Prize) went to Roter Himmel (Afire), which was cast by Simone Bär.
The Silver Bear for Best Supporting Performance went to Austrian actress Thea Ehre for the film Bis ans Ende der Nacht (Till the End of the Night), cast by Ulrike Müller.
The Silver Bear for Best Script went to Angela Schanelec for her film Music, cast by Makis Gazis
Hélène Louvart was awarded the Silver Bear for Outstanding Artistic Contribution for the film Disco Boy, cast by Sebástian Moradiellos, Mathilde Snodgrass, Vibirson Gnanatheepan and Marcella Libonati.





NATIONAL
Canadian Screen Awards
Congratulations to Matthew Lessall, who, alongside Nicole Hilliard-Forde, has been nominated for the 2023 Canadian Screen Awards in the category Achievement in Casting for The Swearing Jar.

Polish Film Awards – Eagles

Woman on the Roof cast by Piotr Bartuszek has been nominated for the Polish Film Awards (Eagles), including nominations in the categories Best Actress (Dorota Pomykała), Best Film, Best Director, Best Script and Best Scenography. The film already received awards at last month’s Polish Film Festival in Gdynia (Best Actress) and Tribeca Film Festival.

UK CDG Awards
Three of our members were nominated for this year’s UK Casting Directors Guild (CDG) Awards:
Victor Jenkins, alongside Seth Mason (Associate), Paushali Banik and Laura Macfadden (Assistants) was nominated in the category Best Casting in a Television Drama Series for Sherwood.
Debbie McWilliams and Jemima McWilliams were nominated in the category Best Casting in a Film for No Time to Die.



French Césars and Lumières Awards
Youna de Peretti cast the film Une jeune fille qui va bien, featuring Rebecca Marder, who was nominated at this year’s César awards as Most Promising Actress.
Lumières de la presse internationale is a French film award presented by the Académie des Lumières to honor the best in the French-speaking cinema of the previous year.
Rebecca Marder, who stars in Une jeune fille qui va bien cast by Youna de Peretti was nominated in the category Most Promising Actress.

German 2022 DafFNE Award for Casting
Susanne Ritter received the 2022 DafFNE award for Casting for her film King of Stinks. This was the 10th year that the German Television Academy (DafF) presented their independent industry award for outstanding individual achievements in German television. Congratulations Susanne!

Swedish Guldbagge Awards
Comedy Queen, which was cast by Catrin Wideryd and also nominated for our own 2022 Semiramis Award for Excellence in Casting, has just received 5 nominations at the 58th Guldbagge Awards, which are presented by the Swedish Film Institute. Actress Sigrid Johnson is nominated in the category Best Actress.

Danish Film Awards (Robert)
Carmen Curlers, cast by Anja Philipp won the Danish Film Award (Robert) in the category Best TV Series.
Drømmeren – Karen Blixen bliver til (feature series), which was cast by Djamila Hansen, was nominated for the Danish Film Awards (Robert) in 2023 in the category Best TV Series.
