Numerous ICDN members were involved in this year’s EUROPEAN SHOOTING STARS Award at the 72nd Berlinale, which took place online and in Berlin from the 10th to the 20th of February.
The hybrid programme allowed the actors to meet journalists, casting directors, producers and filmmakers, and concluded with an award ceremony in Berlin on February 14th.
This year’s international jury was comprised of Swedish-Georgian filmmaker Levan Akin, casting director and ICDN President Timka Grin from Bosnia and Herzegovina, former Italian European Shooting Star Sara Serraiocco, Luxembourgish film producer Bernard Michaux and German based film scholar and curator Yun-hua Chen.

The socially-distant event did not allow for the same mixing-and-mingling as we usually have with the Shooting Stars, but members who were present in Berlin were able to learn more about each actor and hear their stories. EFP also organized a virtual AIN this year, so that members not able to attend in person still had the chance to meet and chat with the actors.

Not only did our ICDN President Timka Grin serve on the Shooting Stars jury, but Executive Director of the Berlinale, Mariette Rissenbeek, made an impassioned speech about the importance of casting directors during the award ceremony.

ICDN President Timka Grin served on the Shooting Stars jury and chose this year’s nominees together with Levan Akin, Sara Serraiocco, Bernard Michaux and Yun-hua Chen.

We are grateful for our long-standing relationship with European Film Promotion and the Berlinale, and for their support and recognition of our profession.
And now, with recent arrival of EFP’s new Project Director Magdalena Gorgieva, and the Berlinale’s new Executive Director, Mariette Rissenbeek, we are excited about an even closer collaboration in the future.
